Education

Impact: Zimbabwe, South Africa

33.8 children were reported to be out of school in Sub Saharan Africa in 2020. This number grew excessively due to the COVID-19 global pandemic which forced global lockdowns and school closures. Unfortunately, already marginalized and vulnerable children were left behind in attaining an education as schools shut down without available options for online education. Additionally, girls account for the highest numbers of children out of school because of cultural oppression, traditional biases, early childhood marriage and being forced to stay home to take on family duties. Without education, young girls become mothers at a young age when forced into early childhood marriages, face the plight of HIV/AIDS, gender- based violence and shorter life expectancy.

SAE Foundation’s education program supports both boys and girls between grades ECD -11 to ensure every child gets an opportunity to be educated.  The program has since 2011 supported 1,183 school age learners and continues to do so despite challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. The sponsorship covers school fees payment, donating educational aids to schools, stationery, uniforms, shoes, COVID-19 PPEs such as masks, hand sanitizers, gloves as well as covering extra curriculum activities for after school.

Sponsoring a child through your generous donation of $30 a month or $300 a year could change the life of a child by giving them access to education that could create a brighter future for not only them but for their community as well.

Women
Empowerment

Impact: Botswana, Eswatini, Malawi, South Africa, Zimbabwe

Beneficiaries: 1300+ farmers, 382 artisans (SMEs)

Women in Africa have historically been the most marginalized within their communities and affected by gender-based violence even though they make up the largest workforce, are the most underpaid and severely under-represented in economic stability despite their disproportionate role as entrepreneurs and main drivers of economic activity. The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic created the shadow pandemic which increased gender-based violence and forced more women into further poverty and oppression.  It is therefore vital that women are protected and have access to socio-economic empowerment to help Africa’s advancement to achieve the Agenda 2063.

Southern Africa Embrace Foundation works with and serves semi-rural and rural communities by empowering women and youth through educational and socio-economic self-substantiality programs. The beneficiaries are involved in rice farming, beading, basketry, community advocacy to combat gender-based violence and are enrolled in skills training to help them start their own income generating projects.

In 2018, SAE Foundation launched a social enterprise called NGUNI ACCESSORIES which is comprised of women and youth artisans who are traders across Southern Africa. The products which include traditional beaded jewelry, household décor items and basketry products are original and handcrafted in Southern Africa using locally sourced raw materials only. The products are sold at fair trades markets locally, in urban cities and online to overseas customers. Profits from the sales of the items are invested back into the community to help with further skills transfer, revolving funds for needed project resources, education, health services and personal use.

Please join us in supporting this program to ensure no woman is left behind.

Youth
Empowerment

Impact: Lesotho, Zimbabwe, South Africa

Currently, almost half the world’s population is under 25 with the continent of Africa having the highest numbers of young people at more than 60% of the population. At SAE Foundation we believe in the empowerment of youth leaders and young board members with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to effectively lead youth clubs and organisations in Southern Africa and beyond. Our organization believes in capacity-building training as a key way to strengthen and support youth participation in everyday life situations. We believe our youth program can help in intercultural learning, skills development, peer to peer education, leadership training, advocacy, activism, opportunity to share experiences, methods and techniques, and explore cultural differences in approaches to all-inclusive youth work.
